(Text/Observer.com Yiming) On the afternoon of March 6, regarding the arrival of a large-scale lithography machine imported from the Netherlands in the Shenzhen factory of SMIC, the company confirmed to the Observer.com today that it is a conventional equipment import, not an external source. It is worth mentioning that at around 2:30 p.m. today, SMIC’s Hong Kong stock market suddenly rose, and the stock price rose by more than 3% after it turned red.
According to SMIC’s official website, its Shenzhen factory is located in Pingshan District, Shenzhen. The first-phase 200mm (8-inch) chip foundry can provide wafer process services from 0.35μm to 90nm. “The successful expansion of the Shenzhen plant can support more 200mm capacity needs and meet the growing needs of customers and markets.”
In addition, the company is headquartered in Shanghai Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, and has a 200mm chip factory and a 300mm chip factory locally, providing process technology services from 0.35μm to 90nm and 45/40nm to 28nm respectively.
Earlier, the “Yangcheng Evening News” reported that on March 4, a large lithography machine imported by SMIC from the Netherlands entered the factory through two gates in the export processing zone. The report pointed out that this machine is mainly used for the expansion of production lines after the company resumes work and production.
The report quoted Luo Ronghui, the customs manager of SMIC, as saying that the expansion of the production line is expected to increase the company’s revenue by about 10% throughout the year.
In addition, according to a recent announcement by SMIC, it has spent US$1.7 billion to purchase semiconductor equipment from Fanlin Group, Applied Materials, and Tokyo Electronics.
Among them, the total amount of the purchase order issued to Fanlin Group is about 600 million US dollars; the total amount of the Applied Materials purchase order is 543 million US dollars, and the total value of the Tokyo Electronics purchase order is 543 million US dollars.
In May 2018, SMIC ordered a latest EUV lithography machine from ASML in the Netherlands, worth up to US$150 million, which was originally planned to be delivered in early 2019.
However, due to the obstruction of the United States, the transaction has not yet been completed.
