Netease Technology News, March 10, according to foreign media reports, Samsung and Apple’s supplier Samsung Display hope that Vietnam will exempt 700 South Korean engineers from the mandatory quarantine, saying they need to prepare for the production of new smartphone screens.

Previously, Vietnam required a 14-day quarantine for visitors from South Korea to curb the spread of the new coronavirus epidemic. This is a huge blow to South Korean companies because they are the largest foreign investors in Vietnam. Samsung Display has a factory in Vietnam where it assembles OLED screens used in smartphones from Samsung, Apple and Huawei.

According to a person familiar with the matter: “At this time of the year, Samsung Display will send engineers from South Korea to Vietnam to prepare for the production of new products to be launched in the second half of the year, and travel restrictions may have a significant impact on such plans.”

Samsung Display is negotiating with the Vietnamese government, hoping that engineers arriving from South Korea will submit medical reports to avoid mandatory quarantine.
